Chic: My sister asked for some slippers this Christmas so I’m going to continue to slowly introduce my family to green living, by giving as many green gifts as I can this year. These look like cozy ballerina slippers and are made by Isotoner, the company we all know.
Green: Made with a bamboo bamboo polyester blend, they’re sure to be the softest slippers ever.
Buy: Isotoner.

Finally, after tons of prodding, Brita is going to recycle the filters from their pitchers.
It seems ridiculous that people had to sign a petition, make videos and more just to get a company to recycle, but I suppose recycling is expensive.
The program is going to start in January and you can donate old filters by taking them to Whole Foods or sending them in. Read the full details Buy:in the press release (PDF).

image: tees for change
Chic: I’m always on the lookout for cute tees to schlep around during the weekends in and for going to yoga class. The best are tees with great messages, instead of something like “Hot Mama” or whatever is the thing these days. That makes me sound like an old woman, but I just don’t want to look like I’m trying to be and hipper than I am.
Also, there’s tees for kids and boys, too!
Green: All the tees made by Tees for Change are 100% organic cotton or a bamboo and organic cotton blend. They also pledge to plant a tree for every shirt bought.
Buy: Get the Organic cotton shirts, bamboo shirts, $28-46

According to TreeHugger:
The global Make Cars Green campaign is an ambitious 10-point plan to steer drivers towards more environmentally-friendly habits, including checking tyre pressure regularly and reduce loads. The campaign builds on the principles by the FIA Make Cars Green declaration, together with Bridgestone, and outlines how policy makers, industry and consumers can all play a constructive role in the future.
But with the current economic downturn, isn’t it too little too late? Many of the concepts are obvious to anyone reading Treehugger, but hopefully, they will use clever PR strategies to quickly get everyone else onboard as well.
Here’s the deal. Automakers aren’t doing so well. They’re doing pretty terribly in fact. But as far as I can tell, the green movement is almost strengthened by the economy. Green is also a way to save money.
And like I said last week, any effort is somewhat worthwhile, I think the burden on big companies is heavier than the everyday person.
On one hand, anyone that has seen Who Killed the Electric Car knows about the failure of automakers in being green, but on the other hand, I’m happy they try at all.
My question is: Can green save carmakers? With the New Green Deal from President-elect Obama, do we all believe that eco-friendly can save the economy?
