Green Gladiator Sandals

If you’ve read this blog recently, you know how much I love the gladiator sandal trend. (I’m lame and fickle like that when it comes to fashion). Luckily, Steve Madden has come out with an affordable vegan style!

Alternative Outfitters suggests pairing it with a draped white dress. But these puppies can be paired with anything. Romantic, urban, you name it.

They are available in black or brown and can be yours for $47.95.

Solisda Jewelry

Solisda is a fabulous jewelry line designed by Catherine Beringer which celebrates “sunshine and nature through modern, organic design.” Catherine uses recycled silver, friendly Argentium alloys and linen to create her unique and ethereal designs.

Did you know Solsida means “sunnyside” in Swedish? A great name for this line, if I can say so!

There are currently three collections you can browse through, Inner Nature, which is inspired by (duh!) nature. The necklace above is one example from the line. There’s also the more conceptual Inner Circle and Inner Spirit lines.

Arizona Jeans Organic Line

Arizona Jeans has two great eco-friendly options for you. They have a Recycled collection, where products must be at least 25% recycled material, like cotton, glass or polyester, and an Organic collection, where products must be at least 70% organic, like cotton and linen.

While I wish AZ had more stringent standards for what constitutes being green, this is a great start for a mainstream clothing line.

eco-centric shirt

The recycled v-neck shirt above is available for only $20.00. Show off your green style with a proud logo! Pair it with some recycled jeans or recycled denim mini and off you go!

Colorful Organic Slim Leg Jeans

I love the look of skinny jeans, especially dressed up with nice heels or dressed down with ratty shoes. Over at Tobi, you can get you skinny jeans that are 98% organic cotton in a variety of different colors–blue, green, grey, jade, purple, ripped to shreds, bleached, black and white checked, dark denim and more!

skinny jeans

While it’s a bit boring, my favorite are the dark denim! They are classic and sleek and you can’t go wrong with them! I’d pair mine with some patent red heels and a crips white shirt for a timeless look.

If you’re feeling brave and go for one of the brighter colors, remember to keep the rest of the look clean and simple. It would be easy for the look to get to retro if you do too much with it and no one wants that!

All the jeans listed above range in price from $109-$329 and are all available through Tobi.

Green Chic: Reading In Style

I just finished reading Green Chic: Saving the World in Style, and I must say I truly enjoyed it. Author Christie Matheson is a humorous and accessible writer. She isn’t preachy or negative or self-righteous and the book is filled with antedotes from her personal green experiences.

green chic cover

This book understands that no one can do everything, but that everyone can do something.

“It’s not about buying your way to being green - or just appearing green,” Matheson says over at Victoria E. “It’s about shifting your mindset, changing your attitude, and developing a personal style that is green.”

It’s about being aware of the issues and making educated choices that suit your lifestyles. Everything from fashion to food to fridges is covered, giving you a comprehensive overivew of how to make your world a little greener.

The one downer is that the book is fairly introductory to green issues. This is fantastic for the newbie to the green scene–Matheson explains the issues in a light and airy voice and never bores with with too much science or politics–but for the eco-freak like me, the issues and practices were nothing new.

However, I did enjoy the personal touches and unique suggestions Matheson included for going green, proving that everyone who picks up this book will walk away with something new to talk about! It’s a sassy and classy take on how to go green, and one I’d recommend!

One of the book’s best features? It’s printed using vegetable based inks on 100% post-consumer recycled paper that’s certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

Matheson is practicing what she preaches too, by donating 50% of her royalties to green organizations. Go Christie!

Published by Sourcebooks Inc., it’s available for $10.36 through Amazon
